Can a portable generator be hooked up as a permanent one?

A friend has a situation like this. He mounted heavy duty full extension drawer slides in that generator bay and a piece of 3/4" exterior grade plywood as a 'drawer'.

His generator, a 2k Honda, is bolted to the plywood and a bracket to hold an outboard motor fuel take that feeds it through a remote kit. To use the generator he just opens the door and pulls it out.
