Can ordered MH cost more upon delivery?

Ordered our 2016 MH back in June and at that time they were using the 2015 Ford chassis. I know that the RV manufacturer's model year can differ from the chassis built year. When ours is finally built, it may be on the 2016 chassis and they may cost $1000 more. Am I guaranteed my negotiated price since I gave a deposit and the order form indicated 2016 model? In other words, are they locked into the agreed upon price regardless of which chassis I get?

Yes, there are a number of websites that allow you to plug in the VIN and it will give you the particulars about the unit. Just Google "VIN search."

That's why the more "questionable" dealers require a deposit. Sure, walk away. They'll keep the $2,500 or whatever you put on deposit to hold the unit. Blustering about hiring a lawyer will not achieve much, either. Once you realize it'll cost much more in legal fees than the deposit, you'll find your only recourse is to rant on rv.net about the crooks that took your cash.

I don't know why anyone ever agrees to put down a deposit. If the dealer wants a deposit, run away. Only when the unit is sitting on the lot and you are sitting in the finance department reviewing the final papers, should your checkbook ever come out. Don't leave your common sense at home when RV shopping! Best, Mike era70x.com

  • My understanding is the 6R140 requires the V10. The combination makes the chassis cost $1K more
From checking the build site for the 2016 E series, the V8 still comes with the 5R110
  • When I was negotiating the purchase of our MH last month, I had each dealer provide a Buyer's Order that set out the full price (including all taxes and fees) for the unit (by VIN), so that we would be comparing apples to apples. Once we settled on McClain's as our dealer, they honored that price. Because your chassis year may change, I suspect that you did not have a VIN indicated in whatever document your dealer provided, which suggests that you might not have had a binding contract. • Went thru the PO and mfg order request and shows 2016 model MH on ford E450. Shows price, down payment and balance due upon delivery.
  • The increase is speculation. The 2016 may come with the new 6 speed transmission on the Ford V10 and the option cost I heard was $1000+.
  • Agreed, only your contract cal answer that question. Out of curiousity.....how do you know a 2016 is $1000 more? Is that in the contract?
  • What does your signed contract say? Does the small print say they can be a change in price? If not then you are set.
