Carbon Monoxide Alarm Beeping

The co2 alarm in my in-laws class C won't stop beeping. Any ideas on what might be causing the alarm to beep constantly whether it's plugged in or not.
  • Check and see how old it is.
    They are marked for replacement.
    They have a limited lifetime.
  • The replacement CO alarms were of somewhat smaller physical dimensions in our 2004 Tioga. The new alarm has 3 wires, only 2 wires go to the alarm in our rig. Leave extra wire unconnected if same as ours. I made hole smaller with pieces of wood and epoxied them in place, drilled small holes for alarm mounting screws. If you buy from Ebay, useful life may be partly gone. Alarms available at RV supply places.

  • I just replaced mine as well, as others have said they do that when they reach the end of their useful life to let you know to swap it out.

It should be easy to replace, just buy an identical one (ebay, amazon, etc) and take the old one off. Mine was hardwired - you'll probably need two butt connector, wire cutters, and something to strip the wires with.
  • Like ronfisherman says, many have a usable lifespan of 5 years. Mine started beeping right at the 5 year mark.
  • Depends on the rig. If it's battery powered then you might need new battery or new alarm ... if it's hard wired to rig then it might need a new internal CO sensor (consider disconnecting and buying battery powered device).
  • Pull it down, make sure it has a good battery and check the expiration date. I had one that beeped due to end of usable life expiration date.
  • Just replaced 12 volt battery cause Carbon Monoxide detector was beeping, in my 5'vr.
  • High amount of Carbon Monoxide.
    Low batteries.
Beyond date of usable life. Many CO detectors have life limit of about 5 years. Then start beeping.
  • Mine beeps when the battery goes dead. Perhaps it needs a new battery.

FYI Carbon Monoxide is CO while Carbon Dioxide is CO2.
