Getting ready to re-carpet my RV. going to use carpet in most areas and hardwood the bath. My question is how do I get the carpet to mold around the doghouse (motor box)?
OK. I pulled all the carpet off my doghouse today. Mine in fiberglass and the carpet all came off in one piece. Using it for a pattern and I'll attempt to recover it tomorrow.
Old carpet = template.... No carpet before means that you have to take your time, cut panels where it makes sense. Get your cuts close and blend with a metal dog hair comb.
If you're in a place with warmth and sunshine, leave the new carpet upside down on an asphalt driveway in the sund for a couple hours, it will get nice and soft.
I just recarpeted our doghouse with some gray shag carpet to match the gray vinyl peel and stick tiles I put down last year. The old DH carpet had been glued down with yellow contact cement and wasn't too usable as a pattern, just a guide. So I laid all the old pieces (6 of them) face down on the new stuff and cut the new pieces a little oversize, knowing I'd probably have to trim it after placing. >> The trick is to heat the bottom of the new carpet with a heat gun set on low or even a hair blow drier set on high. Heat before slobbering on the contact cement. The plastic and fiber backing that holds the carpet fibers softens VERY easily, then presses into the curves and around corners surprisingly well! just hold it in place a few seconds and TADA!!! Molded and ready to glue. good luck
When we re-did our flooring in our other MH, we used Rit Dye to dye the dog house. It looked much better and was easier than re-carpeting it. If you can't get the carpet to work, try the dye.
A lot depends on the shape of the dog house. Some are flat surfaces with right angle sides and others are curved fiberglass. On mine there were screws to remove the cup holder and then it was just a process of gluing on the largest piece of carpet possible and then filling in the remaining blank surfaces with pieces cut to fit.
really, I did not know that. I always thought they used one piece and glued it in place than used a carpet knife to cut around the floor and the rest of the doghouse. I guess I am not to old to learn something new.
When spread out flat it will look like a half of a flower with the petals sticking out. When glued to the doghouse they fold down and wrap around the house shape. Use the old one for a pattern.
