Carrying Portable Waste Tank

We are getting ready to go full time in next few months. So excited about that. We have lots to prepare for and learn and one item is to get a portable waste tank to carry with us.
We will not be in full hook ups all the time. Can anyone of you tell me how you carry this large tank. We are in a Newmar 38 ft. class a. not a lot of large storage underneath. Thought about some sort of rack on the ladder on back of coach. Do any of you have ideas and photos would be helpful.
Also need some help with mail delivery. What is the best way to have mail forwarded or what do you do full time. Some can be emailed but some is land delivered. Thanks and all suggestions are appreciated.

  • One of the common 42 gallon portable waste tanks weighs in at about 350 pounds when full. Keep this in mind when you are looking for a place to store the tank after you have filled it.
If you plan on filling it and then taking it to a place to dump it, make sure that it is within an easy walking distance, or again, you have about 350 pounds to load up in to your toad.
If the dump site is close enough to walk, it may be easier to just drive the coach there, dump, and then go back to your parking site.

We are in SC currently and we will keep our address here for several reasons. We will keep our house and have a family member living there . We will be gone for months at a time then return for a few weeks or month then leave again. Wondered what to do about paper mail. Such as medical stuff. Hard to get Post Office to help with any of this.

Could your family member manage your mail using your current address? It sounds like you're going to be more "longtimers" than "fulltimers". One of our daughters handled our mail for a couple of years until we switched to a commercial service for their scanning feature. Our daughter would weed out the junk mail, and let us know what mail we had once a week or so. If we wanted to know more about a particular item right away, we would have her open it and read it to us. Otherwise, she would package the accumulated mail in a USPS flat rate envelope and send it off to a campground or General Delivery where we were or were going to be in a few days.

As little paper mail as is humanly possible. As shown above, Escapees is the way to go if you absolutely have to have paper mail. And the only reason I can think of for that is medical bills, which are still in the 20th century.

I agree with the "as little as humanly possible." However, the Federally approved mail service address is an important part of establishing legal domicile (getting drivers' licences, registering vehicles, registering to vote, etc.). It doesn't have to be Escapees, but it has to be legal...

  • Blue tank: we carried one the first eight or nine months we were full time... never used it. Sold it to a young couple at FT Polk while we were there.

Mail forwarding: what have you done about domicile? If you haven't taken care of that yet, a month isn't much lead time. We use the Escapees' mail service. The Escapees RV Club is based in Livingston, TX, and offers domicile, mail, and other services (they also have mail services based in Florida now). Their web site has a wealth of information on legal domicile and you can read about their mail service at:

  • Hi, we carry ours in the luggage compartment just behind the one with the fresh water tank. Ours is an Expedition DP not sure how your layout is.
If you carry it on a ladder rack or such, just make sure it doesn't move and rub a hole in it.
