cash grab by Crown Villa Resort

We recently went to Bend oregon to do some dirt biking. We stayed at Crown Villa RV Resort for one night before heading out dry camping. A family friend and her son came along and she brought their dog. As per their regs we tied the dog up to a large tree on our lot. A few days later I get a voicemail from Crown Villa saying the dog had dug up the grass and made a mess and they were assessing us $40 in damages and wanted to know what credit card I would like to use. I did not see the damage but our friend says the dog did not dig up any grass but yes some dirt had been spread onto the grass. She decided not to push it back because one of the maintenance guys was in the process of re-edging and cleaning up the surrounds on all the trees. I watched him do a few and our lot was next. Our friend said it would have taken her 5 mins with a rake to make it good.
When she called back to dispute the charge the General Manager said they had re-assessed and would now only charge us $20, rather than argue she agreed to pay. We have stayed there many times and this was a bit ridiculous to want to charge $40. This would be on top of the $70 we paid for the nights stay. We did also notice that this time the grounds were not their usual pristine condition. Grass looked dry and sparse and hadn't been cut in quite a while. Pine needles everywhere. After our drycamping stay we went back into town but this time stayed at Sisters Garden RV park. The place is looking better each time we go there. beautifully maintained. I had always liked going to Crown Villa but this has soured me and we will most likely never return. Especially when Sisters is much nicer and was $25 cheaper.

  • As a dog owner, and someone that showed dogs for 20 years, I do not believe in dogs being left outside and I do not believe in tying up a dog, for any reason. I can't tell you how many dogs die each year due to this. I also agree that if a dog does damage, same as if a kid does damage, it is not up to me to assess the amount. It is what it is and I would pay it. However, one of our dogs is a service dog and goes everywhere with me (stores, movies, etc.) and the other is 16.5 years old and sleeps 99 percent of his life. We have been to this park before too and LOVED it. Hope they are not going down hill, as that would be so sad We planned to return in 2014.
  • .

ANY damage done by pets is the responsibility of the owner . I would charge a high price to repair pet damage as a way to discourage the owners from letting it happen again . Many places charge a pet deposit .

If the camper had a problem with that , I would invite them to go somewhere else . Let someone else clean up after their pet .

  • You tie a dog out, it digs, you do nothing but let the maintenance people take care of it and then complain when you are charged?

It isn't irresponsible dogs, it is their owners that cause problems for everyone. Soon there will be no places that allow pets because of actions of irresponsible owners. A well trained dog wouldn't be digging.

Sorry, but if the dog (or kid, or adult for that matter) does damage, then they pay to have it taken care of - and I don't care if they were doing landscaping work in the area.
