CB Radios

I have mine on all of the time when traveling. However, I keep the squelch turned all the way up (or down, whichever applies to keeping the radio quiet). I find that the only time I really hear anything on it is when there is a major traffic tie up on the highway.

In the many times that I've made the attempt, I have yet to raise another RV on it while going down the road and spotting another. Tried on both CH13 and CH19.

A CB radio can be very handy. Just wait until you need assistance on the road, and find out that you have no cell service where you are....;)

Got one but seldom use it due to the language and the static coming from both it and the navigator. :E (It's gonna take a week for the swelling to go down if she sees this!)

Someone over on iRV2 was selling CB13 stickers for your motor home. I have a CB, but I don't know if I'll use it.

WE use CB and Garmin GPS to find out traffic info. No much use for anything else.

I was wondering if there would be some benefit to having the channel you monitor posted on the back of your coach. This is not to "chat", but to give others a mechanism to contact you should they see something amiss with your rig. Ha, DW told me I was getting like the "Millers" traveling buddies when I told her this (recall they had their names on their coach).

I still use mine on every trip.

No CB any more for us. It's ancient technology.

I enjoy more direct backroad routes with very little traffic. Coming out of Atlanta maybe you understand why.

But when I just gotta know what's going on I'll use Google Maps with traffic enabled. And yes, I'll drive around a stoppage in traffic if I can (I run about 50% success rate). The tricks are to pull off before the stoppage (gotta check traffic constantly - I don't do that) and know when to pull back on. That's where a CB would come in handy, but I like many others don't care for the chatter.

There's an app called Waze (waze.com) that reports smokies, traffic ties, etc. My wife likes that one.

I used to drive OTR... I was used to CB's... I travel with 2 kids and removed my CB when they started to listen in to the drivers...
I was finding more times than not that I would find out about accidents too late to help.. and the language just kept getting worse..!
I now use the Waze app on my phone and I get warning in enough time to react...

Finding out about a closed lane or about why I'm sitting stopped in traffic from truckers does me no good.

I do what everyone else does...I sit in the line of cars and inch forward.

Our Garmin cell phone GPS can tell us all about the traffic up ahead..but if we need to get from here to there we really have no control over the traffic....and I'm not going to start lane hopping or try to find some round about route.

Listening to truckers' foul jabber is not going to get us there any faster.
