CCC question - Cargo Carrying Capacity

When figuring CCC, do you include the weight of the fuel or not? I can't seem to get a straight answer. I've searched the net and depending on what site you pull up, the answer is always different. One site tells me that the CCC is the unladen weight of the vehicle before water, cargo, people, etc., but if DOES include fuel. Other sites say that the weight of fuel needs to be added.

I know that there are going to be similar responses to this question so what I'm really looking for is some sort of "official" site or reference that I can look to. Either way, if I figured it correctly, I shouldn't have a problem with weight, but short of having it actually weighed, which I can't right now because I'm no where near a weigh station, so I'd like to find a written/published resource that I can look at.

My weights are as follows.
GVWR - 14050
UVW - 10901
Net CCC - 3149 lbs
Minus H2O -332
Propane - 65
Cargo -500
People & dogs -400
Cloths -200
Misc -200
Leaves 1452 lbs of CCC left over
Minus gas @ 335 lbs = 1117 lbs CCC remaining.

Do these numbers seem reasonable, or am I missing something?
  • OCCC is very simple. It uses a full load of fuel and LP as part of the unloaded weight. You only have to account for water (including waste), people, cargo, and tongue weight.

Once in a while the government gets it right. This is just such a case.
  • The UVW is supposed to include full tank of fuel, full oil & coolant. SCWR = number of beds x 154, but I use real weights of occupants; fresh water at 8.3 lbs per gallon including 6 or 10 gal for hot water heater; full propane at 4.2 lbs per gal. So, CCC = GVWR - (UVW+SCWR+LPG+FW). I'll bet someone will let me know if I hashed it up, but that's how I have my spreadsheet set up.

  • Since June 2 2008, new RVs have the weight of fuel and propane included in their base weight as posted on the yellow sticker.

Some stickers don't give you the posted weight, only the OCCC. My Winnie has a OCCC of 2903 pounds. I have to do the math (14500-2903) to get the weight of the coach w/ full fuel and propane (11597).
  • Since you're working from the GVWR, it means that everything combined should not exceed the 14,050 specification. Your calculations look correct to me.
