Hi,
It sounds as if the reverse polarity fuses in the converter have been exposed to 24 volts. DAMHIK.
What make and model of battery was put in place?
Get someone in right away to correct the wiring on the twelve volt jars.
I seldom disagree with smk--but 12 volt jars are more suitable for large inverters than six volt. They do need to be wired in a balanced manner.
I'd be talking to who ever installed the batteries incorrectly, too. There is a possibility of other damage.
