Changes over the years?

We have purchased an older class A. And we were wondering just how much do you think they have changed over the years, say from 1999 to now. Obviously TVs are newer, slideouts and bigger ones, things like that, but the actual MH systems and its workings

Thanks
  • I think a lot is give and take and depends on the level of the coach and the upgrades from year to year. Our 1993 was purchased with many upgrades such as corian counter tops, upgraded cabinets, solid flooring, full queen mattress and other little touches that has made it nice but more important has helped the coach last. The chassis being a spartan has also taken us many carefree miles. We have 4 wheel disk brakes our cummins was the newest out with 230 hp. and allison MD3060. The big difference is certainly not having slides which today for most would be a deal breaker. The shape of our coach helps with aerodynamics but I am sure no one would think it is in vogue today. If our coach was new it would likely be around 340 HP. so once again upgrades and chassis has been significant over the years.
  • The quality of the chassis part has certainly improved over the years.

The 1999 Chevy/Workhorse P and early 275 HP V10 F53 Ford are a far cry from the newer Workhorse 8.1/Allison transmission and Ford 2005 and newer 362 HP/5 speed transmissions.

You can still find entry level and higher end coaches, so quality generalizations are not really relevant.
  • The price has increased and the quality of the product, as well as the service has went down hill. Pride in production has been lost to "time is money" thinking.
  • In 2000 Workhorse led the way with a new chassis that started some competition with Ford that resulted in many improvements in chassis for both. The unfortunate demise of WH RV chassis that came with the end of the 8.1L V8 left us with only 1 gas chassis builder.
