"Chasis" light wont go off - panel

Hey guys and gals,

There's a panel upon entrance of my gulfstream sunvoyager 1991,

it has a few switches, like the button to retract the step.

It has a light labeled "chasis" that never goes off.

Why?

Im afraid it's draining my battery. I DONT have a coach battery in at the moment. Perhaps related?

not sure.

help please thank you

thanks.
  • Chassis usually refers to the battery that runs the engine, Do you have a salesman switch to turn the chassis battery off?It might be telling you, that you have power to the chassis battery, you could test that by unhooking the battery and see if the light goes off.
  • Probably a battery shut off for the chassis/engine battery so it doesn't drain when it's sitting. We don't shut it off unless we are sitting for more than a week or two.
  • thanks for your thoughts folks.

the light does go off after i disconnect the battery. none of the switches though near the light turn it on or off!

    Anymore insights?
  • I thought you said it stays lit and you don't have a coach battery installed? What do you mean it goes out when you disconnect the battery?

I've got two battery switches that light, coach and chassis. The lights go out indicating power from the battery has been shut off via a relay back at the batteries controlled by the switch. Maybe the relay is stuck?
  • yes, i did say that! still true.

chasis light stays on, wont go off, until i disconnect battery. concerned its draining my battery.

    good point on the relay....

any idea where that would be? what would it look like? a fuse or a switch? im a newbie RVer.

    thank you!!!
  • So what battery are you disconnecting to make it go out? The chassis battery?
  • You might check inside your outside storage bays. That's where our shutoff switch is for the chassis battery. Ours is in the very front bay on passenger side - house battery switch is in the electrical bay.
  • Yes disconnecting the chassis battery.

Ok ill check for an outside shut off or relay.

Thank you all for your thoughts and help!

Are you connected to Shore power? If so unplug, turn switch to OFF and sit back for a minute or two.. It may then go off.. If not you have a disconnect issue.
  • Turn which switch to off? The inside, shoreline switch?

    Ill try that. Thank you.
