We have been at many establishments with older people - ie in their 60's at the till. They are not necessarily wonders using the computers necessary for their job.
I am on the board of directors that runs a marina and a museum. We staff both enterprises with students during the summer. Having 7 to 10 student employees each year for the last 35 years gives be hands on experience with the GENERATION alluded to above. They have been excellent employees. During that time we fired 1 and din't rehire another. We also fired and adult manager.
It is fact if you look back you will find that every aging generation has a group that bemoans how horrible the next generation is. Youth growing up in the 60's were described the same as the description posted above. I've read published material moaning about how bad the current young people are. It was published by and educator in 1880.
We have many great young people. Hopefully they won't mess up as badly as we have done.
I'd add that if there is a problem with the latest generation, then who is to blame? The generation that raised them? The generation that raised the generation that raised them? If they're ill-prepared for the real world, then maybe those of us in the prior generations have made mistakes on their behalf.
