CHF on 2014 F53, 23 ft MH

When trying the CHF on rear bar and moving the struts to the second set of holes you have to push then from a neutral position back towards the rear, is tis the right way to do this, or do I need longer struts. Is this the right way to do this. wondering has any one done this with luck before I try it. Thanks for any advice you may have.

  • CHF, aka Cheep Handling Fix, is a mod late model Ford chassis owners can do. The front and rear roll bars have an extra hole closer to the axles that owners can move the links that connect the chassis to the bar. Moving the links amounts to moving closer to the center of a teeter totter and stiffens up body roll. Same effect as installing a larger diameter roll bar.

On IRV2 in the Ford Motorhome Chassis Forum the thread that start it is up to 2777 posts since the first post back on 28 July 2010.
  • Oh ..."CHF" ...LOL. I did it to my last 2006 MoHo. A 34'Class'A' on Ford F53 chassis. It was equipped with the sway bars on both the front and rear. The rear was easy. The front had very much angular torque on the left side bolt which made it very difficult to remove & impossible to reinstall. I discovered the only way to reinstall the left front bolt was to use a jack to force the bar into position. I did the rear 1st with some ride/handling improvement. After I did the front, the improvement was amazing.

Help a newbie out here...what is a CHF?

  • You should be OK the new angle of the arms. What you have to watch is the clearance between the roll bar and the differential housing. If you uncomfortable with the new position of the bar ends replacement links can be fabricated but I don't have a suggestion on where to find them. I had no problem with my 32' coach.
