CHF F53

Is it better/easier to do the CHF with jacks down or retracted?
  • I forgot to mention that changing out the bushings is a must with this change because it puts a lot more force on the swaybar and the OE black neoprene bushings soon fail. Get some urethane bushings and install them while you're under there.

Correct me if I`m wrong but don't you need longer links in the front to do the job correctly?

No. The F53 sway bars have 2 sets of holes and either will reach but it just changes the angle. All you are doing is moving it from one set of holes to the other and it tightens things up. No idea why manufacturers don't just do this before they leave the factory. Makes me wonder how many people drove a gasser and and passed on it due to the ride when they may have bought it with the CHF. It's a pretty dramatic improvement - and free. Just taking advantage of the option that Ford offered in the first place.

Yes I know how it works, but with the OE link on the inner holes, when the front is raised there isn’t much suspension travel. I have beards a couple of complaints of damaged links and noise when going over dips in the road. No doubt it handles way better, but I do believe you need the longer links to make it perfect!

2 different MH's in 8 years, both with the fix on stock bars and no problems on either. YMMV. If there is an aftermarket product that does it better, that's great. I never used it so I can't speak to it.

I bought the longer adjustable links and then adjusted them to within a 1/4" of the originals on the front. On the back, I just reused the originals.

Man! What an improvement it makes! I used to feel like my MH was top heavy on sweeping turns. Now it's rock solid and steady. It made a day & night difference.

  • No jacks and on a level surface. You don't want to take weight off the wheels otherwise you will have a heck of a time moving the sway bars into position. Even on a fairly level surface I still had to use a small bottle jack to nudge the one sway bar into position so I could align it with the bolt.
