We travel with two other RVs...
Ours is a 1995 Southwind Storm (Fleetwood) with no slides, 30', powered by a Chevy 454TBI with a 4-speed automatic. There are no performance upgrades and we have over 60,000 miles on her. Fully loaded she loves 70-80 miles an hour (and getting 8mpg) as the torque curve comes alive. Hills are no real problem to date. (Paid $13,900 used)
If your coach "loves 80 mph"...get your speedomoter checked!! Most probably somene has changed tires at some point and put a smaller diameter tire on the rig..( maybe 225/70..as compared to the older 8R tires)
MAX RPM on that engine is 4300 RPM..and that equates to 84 MPH. Thats checked on a cool morning..flat ground..no wind..after a straightline run of over 2 miles prior to opening it all the way up! The engine wont go any faster..because it cant get "enough" fuel thru that piddly small TBI unit!
And thats AFTER a full Banks installation!
