Claas A/ Class C

Originally i was thinking of buying a used class C motorhome. Then i started looking at smaller (30') class A's.

What is the advantage or disadvantage of one over the other ?
  • Thanks for the link gbopp. Occupants will be 2 adults & 2 small dogs.

Effy.....,yes i argree with your post. A lot of what said is what got me thinking about a class A. The one thing i've notice is that small class A's are not as plentiful as class C's.

Might rent a class C before buying and see what i like or dislike

In recent years the newer small class A's have really bridged the gap between C's and A's. Most small Class A's now offer a drop down bunk which was the largest advantage of buying a C (the overhead bunk). The price points are also so close and often eclipse each other that price advantage is fading away as well.

Personally I can't think of a ton of advantages for a C when comparing to a Small A anymore. You may be able to get a C for a little less money but not much.

An A will ride better by virtue of the better chassis, the field of vision is greater, the front seats/cabin can actually be used when camped in an A, tanks are usually larger as well as storage space and overall they are just bigger inside.

The largest single point that kept me from buying a class C is that the front seats and cabin area become useless/wasted space while camped. Which is 90% of the time. The second biggest point was the ride. We rented a Class C before buying an A and simple things like laying on the bed while driving was so rough and bouncy it couldn't be done comfortably. YMMV.
C's sit a little lower to the ground if that's important and usually have a driver and passenger door.
  • How will you use the RV? How many people/pets?

    It can make a difference.

I like the A because of the higher driving position/view.
