Class A advice

I am getting ready to upgrade from a small class C to a gas Class A. I have been looking hard at 3 vehicles:
1- Winnebago Sightseer/Sunova model 33C
2- Tiffen Allegro model 32SA
3- Newmar Baystar model 3113

Does anyone have an opinion on which would be the best decision?

  • Well Al, I've owned only a bounder and a Winnie, I have loved them both. Neither is perfect but both had/have great features and accessories. I have heard great things about both Tiffin and Newmar and in my opinion it boils down to floor plan first and price second. If price is of no great concern, it boils down to floor plan and even though not mentioned earlier, the bright work and upholstery.

I think I would look at Newmar first, just because I have read far fewer negative things or problems with Newmar. That doesn't mean the other two are not great.
  • Thank you to all for your opinions. I have so far just been looking online, so now I will visit dealers who have my choices. Looking forward to getting more advice and opinions before making a decision.
  • I can't talk for all of them but we have owned Tiffin for the past 12 years and it has been a great experience for us. If we buy again it will be another Tiffin due to the incredible support that they provide. And yes the Tiffin has a fiberglass roof and full body paint.
  • Here is where I'm coming from when I say this;

My parents owned an Allegro - I worked on that a LOT. They bought it based on my recommendation. I fell for the hype of how great their customer service is, and theirs too made the trip back to Red Bay. Unfortunately the fixes didn't last the trip home, I ended up fixing it - and that was just the beginning.

Friends owned a Winnie - I worked on that a LOT - just a terrible roof design, even though it is "fiberglass". Our first MH was an Itasca (Winnie twin) that did not use the terrible roof design they use today.

We've owned 3 Newmars - if we ever buy again it will be another Newmar. I have spent far more hours working on other peoples stuff than my own, by a long shot.

Of the 3 listed, only Newmar does not use laminate construction. If it's laminated it can, and someday probably will, delaminate.

Many (most?) people post giving an opinion because thats what they own and they know about theirs, and thats fair. My suggestion comes from not only knowing our own but working on others as well. I currently have a 5th wheel in my garage getting a new roof. I am not an RV Tech, I'm a guy with a big enough garage to get them in and enjoy working on them - to a point.

For my $$$ I'll stick with Newmar.
  • All are good brands!

I've only owned Winnebago, but one of the things I like about them is manufacturer information available online about the unit:

    Winnebago Resources

They provide manuals, drawings, parts list - even exploded views and if you enter your serial number, you can get an entire bill of materials used to built your specific unit, and a with those the current part number, superseded part number, and availability.
  • I would say the Tiffin hands down. But that depends on the floorplan and which one that you like the best.
  • Mr. Allen,

I would pick the one that has the fiberglass roof if available. Of course the floor plan is important and that can pretty much trump everything else.

Are you talking about buying new? If not, then maintenance is EVERYTHING!

    Good luck,
    MM.
