Class A insurance for the over 50s

I’m going from a c class, travel trailer to a class a and shopping for Rv insurance any input lessons learnt appreciated , currently with progressive travel trailer and Allstate for the cars, I’m checking out good Sam now .

I genuinely value the members input and Rv.net has been a source for 12 years for me and thanks for all your coaching

  • We have been using USAA for the past 3 decades including our towable (TT/5er) RVs over that period, but when we acquired a class A last year we called USAA and they used Progressive to insure our rig. Can't say for certain if they have the lowest premiums, I do know our renewal premium was lower than first year. We had roadside assistance added to policy and had call to use it last year, we were impressed with their customer service before, during, and after having our 40' rig towed to our residence.

Allstate does not own Good Sam, but Good Sam does contract with Allstate for their emergency roadside service. The Good Sam Insurance Agency is a broker for National General, Progressive, Safeco, and Foremost insurance policies.
  • Thanks Rick yes will stick with the main carriers to ensure maximum coverage, appreciate your input
  • Don't just shop for the cheapest. Shopping for insurance is kind of like looking for a contractor -- you want cheap or you want good??

AFTER you've gotten prices, study reviews to see how particular carriers pay out and what policyholders think of them, then make your final decision.

  • Like Dutch, we have multiple policies.
USAA on the jeep, Progressive on the Scooter, and Miller insurance (General) on the class A.
Check within your state, companies often dont offer specialty insurance, ie motorhome or motorcycle in some states, but do in others.
  • We have Progressive for our Class A and Allstate for our toad. Allstate was lower than Progressive for the toad because we bundled the insurance on our upstate NY family cottage with it. The cottage square footage was just under Progressives minimum though. Our Progressive premium on our Class A was almost half of what Allstate wanted, but each situation is different so get multiple quotes and compare rates and coverage.
