- J-RoosterExplorerWhen I went thru DV last the road was fine for a RV! I had to turn my genset on too cool the inside of my coach.
- mdprinceExplorerany temp over 125 - I need shade or a 3rd air conditioner !!!
- Mr_Mark1ExplorerI think the highest temp in Death Valley was over 130 degrees (maybe the record in north America) ... don't feel like googling it, my fast computer is down.
Anyway, it's hot enough there that you could probably cook a cow in the heat of the summer! LOL! And, they DO get rain, only about 2.5-3.0 inches a year. There have been years where they get ZERO rain.
They are 200 ft. or so below sea level which is excellent for golfing....they say (I don't golf).
Death Valley is a harsh place depending on the time of year. Be careful out there!

msmith1199, thanks for the info on the 12,000 peaks! LOL Our interest is mainly Sequoia, but thought going via Death Valley might be interesting. We will look at optional routes.
We were heading north up 395 and didn't see a doable entrance to Sequoia from the east, so after visiting some of Death Valley and staying overnight in a full service campground, we proceeded up to Lee Vining for the night and then went through Yosemite the next day. Once over Yosemite, one could then enter Sequoia at some point from the west side, I'm sure.
Didn't much like the descent out of Yosemite going west, but that's doable also if you're more than careful. - msmith1199Explorer II

So many people have tried to cook eggs that they have left a mess. I read that The park rangers have asked visitors to refrain from cooking eggs on the pavement etc.

In that video they also cook it in a pan and it works. It looks almost edible at the end. But I don't like my eggs sunny side up. - USARMYCWExplorerSo many people have tried to cook eggs that they have left a mess. Unfortunately that's a bit of a myth ;)
Trying to cook an egg in Death Valley
Actually it's not a myth. The guy in this article used a frying pan set on rocks. I have seen eggs fried on pavement. Now it doesn't cook it well and I sure wouldn't eat it, but it does start to cook. - msmith1199Explorer II

Just keep in mind, that 120+ degrees is not unusual in the summer. RV rental companies will not let you go through Death Valley in the summer (the company we rented from). Can you imagine how hot the pavement is if it's 120 outside? You could definitely cook an egg on it!
Death Valley gets less than 3 inches of rain a year from what I remember. Beautiful area though. If you visit the area, don't miss Scotty's Castle....neat story.

The Valley doesn't get the rain, but it gets the flash floods from the rain in the mountains around it. - wa8yxmExplorer IIIIn another time and place (Different family of forums) I have a friend who lives in a Class C. (Well two of them actally, Husband and wife)
They are camp hosts at a Death Vally CG part of the year.
Can you make it with an "A"? Well, That depends a lot on the Motor home.. Is it in good condition? Do you have overheat issues? Oil pressure issues? Figure your odds of breakdown.
If they are high, Don't go there.
