class c couch removal

i have a 2010 sunseeker 31' class c. i was told it is possible to remove the jack knife couch in order to put in chairs and a table. anyone know if the couch will go out the door without a major problem or does the the couch somehow come apart enough to remove? thanx

  • My Itasca Cambria had the 'rest easy' sofa/couch/recliner combo and I removed it to install custom dinette. I had to take it apart but it is very easy to do.

    If it is a flat frame (not springs) you should be able to use coat hanger wire or something similar to get it back to where it was. We also added new foam to ours. If springs are broke, you will need to get new replacement ones.

    I just re-covered our jackknife - it came out in two pieces. 4 bolts on each half, top and bottom. Not a problem at all to get through the door.

    We took ours out in the 2 pieces also for recovering, man is it nice now along with the booth seats and new captain seats. We had to leave ours in as it has the furnace and converter under the couch.

  • Ours has the water tank, pump, furnace and wheel well under it. I took it out the door and built a platform bed (SO much more comfortable) with doors under it and gained more storage.

  • Is there anything under your couch? That's a consideration before you go through with this plan. The back came off of the couch I removed and replaced with a reclining love seat. That was in a trailer, though.

  • I just had mine repaired. Boy when you really get to look at how they attach that couch and what type of wood they use it's sad.

    Anyway they took it right out the door. I too was concerned about the wives tale of having to take it out the window. RV mobile repair said he hasn't seen one yet that didn't go out the door.

    BTW He rebuilt the frame with real 2x4's and then attached with real wood and screws! Now it sits upright correctly and opens and closes correctly.
    IMHO a real Easy inexpensive fix compared to replacing the whole couch.
  • It will go out the door on most coaches. I've seen a few where the dinette window had to be pulled out.
  • I did just what you want to do. Mine was a 31ft, class C. Went right out the door. I never found a way to attach them to the floor. I did not remove the seat belts and when I traded it they wanted the couch back in which I saved. They put it back in and I gave the chairs which I bought at furniture store, to a single mom. I really like the chairs.
