Class C on the Palisades Interstate Parkway?

Can I drive my Class C on the Palisades Interstate Parkway?

Interesting. Wasn't aware of these parkways. Since the PIP allows buses, it would appear it isn't really a height issue? They also don't allow vehicles with any sort of business/marketing markings on them. Wow - with all the vinyl decals and wraps out there these days, this is a pretty interesting rule. Not sure I get it...

Didn't know they allowed busses - can't recall seeing any. But there really is a height issue. Perhaps the busses are low clearance and the drivers are specially trained.

I spent several months working there after Hurricanes Irene (2011) and Sandy (2012). Had magnetic signs on the truck but usually took them off when driving a parkway because that made it a 'commercial vehicle' to any cop that hadn't reached his quota.

Hmmm....maybe not traditional buses as I'm envisioning? Maybe they mean the small buses, like churches sometimes have?

  • Considering the PIP starts in Fort Lee, NJ and ends at the Bear Mountain Bridge in Highland Falls, NY, use 9W, which runs more or less parallel and will get you to/from the same places. It'll also get you to Albany, NY, which is a lot further north.
  • The PIP follows the same rules as the New York Parkways. No commercial vehicles, trailers or RV's of any kind.
  • You'll have to check on bridge clearances. There's lots of low, stone arch bridges.
