Clear plastic shelves in fridge

We have two clear acrylic shelves that are sitting on the bottom two wire shelves in the Dometic. I am not sure why they are there, but would think they would impede airflow. Do you leave them in or take them out? Which is better for cooling?

Thanks,

Chuck
  • We bought one f those little fridge fans that runs on D batteries, so I guess between that and the cold air naturally falling we'll be okay. We tend to over-stuff the fridge, especially at the start of a trip and the fridge has to work pretty hard. Should be okay though.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate you as always.
  • All the fridges we've had with them seem to work fine.
I wonder if they are there to impede to flow of cold air. Maybe without them the items under there would freeze. Residential fridges are built the same way.
  • Air movement in a fridge is "creeping around" not gushing as if fan forced. If there is a little room at the front and back of the plastic shelves I would think that it would not impede flow at all.
  • Cold air from the fins drops down the back of the refer...cold air sinks. So if the two bottom shelves don't impede air flow behind them, they'll be fine. They're used because spills are easier to handle on a flat surface instead of in the crispers or on the racks.

I'd leave them in to make spill cleanup easier.
