Coachmen Cross Country 354MBS owners ?

Picking up a 2007 Coachmen Cross Country 354MBS next week. We are trading in our 5th wheel toyhauler.

Anyone else on here have one of these ?

Wondering if we should be looking for anything in particular as a problem area, what to watch for, any words of wisdom on this particular manufacture/model ?

Thanks !

I have read some troubleshooting posts and they mention checking a fuse.

I own a 2005 coachman with a 300hp cummins engine . Be sure and let it idle for about 5 minutes before you shut it down, the turbocharger needs time to cool down. I had to replace the turbo on mine $3500 I was lucky it was covered under warrant. I purchased a battery fill system from camping world to fill the batteries with water. I purchased mine as a repo with 8500miles. I now have 23000 miles with no other problems.Good Luck , we love ours.

when buying ours it had a check engine light. hadr to delay pickup by a day while the dealership paid to have freightliner install a new turbo. glad it was on their dime and done prior to us taking delivery.

no gotta figure out that step not working.... and ideas ?
i know we have a switch to stop the step from retracting but not sure what is causing it from extending.

  • got another question.... just went out to put the manuals back inside and the eletric step didnt open when i opened the door. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work with no luck....

-I've opened and closed the door multiple times.
-started the engine, opened and closed door.
-started the generator, opened and closed door.
-flipped the electric step switch a few times during each of the above
-even bumped it with my foot and gave it a gentle pull with no luck

the step light comes on when the door opens so it is sensing the door open but the step isnt moving.

    any suggestions ?
  • There is a radio power switch next to the generator start switch on the dash. I understand the purpose is that the radio is used when parked. I think the radio operates from the "house" batteries and not the engine batteries. I think the radio will work with the dash switch off and the ignition on but I just keep the dash switch on as we have a 50 amp plug where we park at home and a good convertor/charger to maintain the house batteries constantly. I think there is only two inputs for the rear view monitor. Not sure if one can be split for side view cameras. I've been looking for a color monitor as a direct replacement for the voyager monitor. We have a color rear view on our CRV and it is an awesome picture. Much easier to see what is up than the Black and white.

I had to replace the original CRT Samsung TV when it broke after five years. Couldn't find a replacement that met the size requirements. Found several threads here and elsewhere with photos of LCD TV replacing the old tube types. Easy to do and the picture is amazing. I also took out the swivel barrel chair and put in a euro type recliner/ottoman I bought at Costco. A little tight but it works out and is much more comfortable. Now we can both put our legs up.
  • We went ahead and traded for a 2007 Cross Country 354MBS.

Our radio has a switch on the dash that is needed to power it on. Seems odd that it would not work with just the key on. It is an after market radio. On yours, do you need the radio switch on to power the radio even with the key on ?

Our back up camera has a second channel. Do you know if it can be wires for a split screen to have two side viewing cameras ?

Any suggestions on things to upgrade or change ?
It has a flat panel tv in the front but other than that I can't pick out any other upgrades/changes.

    Thank you.
  • Have a 2005 354MBS. Mostly little problems the first two years. Wires in 50 AMP cordset not tightened in plug to side of RV. Caused a spike that fried all electronics. Including: microwave, sat receiver, step motor and fridge. Bought a new cordset that was factory assembled. Two years out, starter went. Stranded at June Lake for five days. Coolant sometimes leaks from reservoir. Loud buzzing and degraded performance until reservoir topped off. Everything else wrong, I did myself. Coachmen seems to have done well here. Freightliner builds a quality chassis. You just have to learn the idiosyncrasies of your rig. We enjoy ours. You will too. Keep maintenance up of course. Happy travels.
