I have a 97 Newmar Kountry Aire on a Ford chasee. According to the Vin # it is also 97. My problem is I can not find the plug for the code reader. I did find a plug but it is not the right shape. Thanks Brick

There may be an advantage to OBD 1...

Depending on the vehicle (And you WILL need a manual to tell you how to do this)

On my 1992 Lumina (OBD 1) All I had to do was connect two pins together with a paper clip and read the flashing light (Like on an Onan Generator)

    Then look it up.

With my OBD II new towed I have to plug in a reader.

NOTE.. .Mine was a GM system and because of that I won't even hint at which pins. but if Ford OBD 1 is the same.. Readers sure are inexpensive.

I thought obdii was out in 1997.

OBDII was not used on the F53 chassis until the switch to the V10 in 1999. It was not mandated for the larger truck sizes for a few years after passenger cars and smaller trucks were required to have it.

  • Hi,

When they do a smog check in California, they look under the dash, near the steering colum, and plug into the engine management connection there. I think that is the same connection that you need to find.

  • On my 96 Pace ..F53/460 the connection is under the doghouse on the left......has a cap on it.
