We just replaced our front Coleman heat pump. The cost was $1000 or so plus $100 labor.
The unit comes with a 2 year warranty, and an optional 3 year parts only warranty after 2 years is available for $89.
Do ya'll think it is worth buying? My understanding is that these units as mostly throw away devices and not worth repairing.
Thanks.
I would say the parts warranty isn't worth it. As mentioned there isn't much serviceable on these units. If anything serious goes wrong with it no one will work on it, and very few places will even sell parts. Almost anything that can be replaced will cost less than the extended parts warranty.
In 2015 we had a problem with our Coleman Mach 8. In our case the system wouldn't switch from cooling to heating. When I went through the diagnosis procedures it turned out to be a bad control module. Every service center we went to didn't even want to look at it. All they wanted to do was replace the entire unit. I finally called the Coleman tech line and explained the problem to a rep. He sent out a new control box at no charge. The unit now works fine, but had I taken it to a dealer it would have resulted in a complete unit replacement that wasn't necessary.
