Combining AC & heat

DW & I are into our 1st year full timing & recently discovered that the rear AC unit will cool the coach as well as the front one.

We are having some temperature swings recently & couldn't I set the heater control on the front thermostat to cover the night time temperatures while leaving the rear unit to cover the daytime highs??? Anyone done this? :?

BTW we're in a 99 Winnebago Adventurer.
  • Perhaps some very high end RV have such systems but in every motorhome we have owned, you must select either 'cooling' or 'heat' at the thermostat which basically controls all your AC units. My coach has three roof heat pumps which provide cooling or heat. However, I cannot set the system so that one of them provides cooling while the other/s provide heat.

Maybe consider using a small electric space heater.
  • I have two thermostats and two AC/heat pump units, so yes, I have in the past set one for 60 degrees heat and the other for 80 degrees and cools. Works just fine.

I do much the same but for different reason... run rear unit during the day and front during the night. Close the roof vents on the duct-ted unit that's going to run and open the other. Much quitter this way.
  • Yes, indeed it does work! Rear AC on for high temps, & front set on heat for night time lows. Works like a charm on this old girl!
