Compound,Polish,Wax Gel Coat

My coach has a few areas on the gel coat that I would like to shine up a bit better. Its a little dull not real bad and some stains that are beyond black streak remover. I was looking at Turtle wax rubbing compound is it safe on gel coat? Then is says use polish then paste wax. Lot of steps I think.... just want to use a compound etc. That is safe for gel coat. Thanks in advance of any input.

Any cleaner wax will work as well as anything.
  • Get 3m white compound then go over it with 3m blue polish it's a Lil pricey but it's really good stuff and works. Oh and to answer your question, yes most all waxes and polishes are safe for gel coat.
  • If it is still available, I had great results with Zaino's All In One. It was a mild polisher, and wax, in one. I uses a buffer, as I applied this, I first spent 2-3 hours hitting bad areas with tar remover, and a few heavier scratched areas with aggressive down to medium rubbing compounds.

This was on a 98 Bounder gel, that had been neglected over the years... Cleaned up well:)!

    Best of luck,

  • Just wash the coach with a medium clay bar and wax it. Clay bars are available at any auto parts store. If the oxidation is not too bad, you can go with a fine clay bar.

How old is your motorhome and how badly is the Gel coat oxidized? If not bad I would start with a polishing compound. If that does not cut it I would move up to a higher grit rubbing compound and then a buffer. The only time you have to worry about ruining the gel coat is with a mechanical buffer. You would have to rub long and hard on the same spot to rub through by hand.
  • Do not use rubbing compound , it is way to coarse.
polishing compound is a may-be? Test it first! A cleaner wax would be OK.
  • If it is a Gelcoat you can use a rubbing compound, but if you have full body paint with clear coat, it will destroy your paint job. The clear coat will get dull.

What I use on my gelcoat boat is: VIP SWIRL AWAY by it through the internet from the Wax Depot. It brings the color right out on gelcoat.

I used with our last two boats and RV's with good results. They make a #50 also for no cleaner needs.
It is work no matter what brand you choose IMO. Pay me now or pay me later as in another application with some bad non lasting wax.
303 on the front cap works wonders also.
