confused about tire covers

Go to most tire warehouses and where do you find tires piled. On the concrete with no vapor barrier.

Thanks Don, Oldman and I were talking about the tire manufacturers recommendations, not the accessories manufacturers.

I can't speak for Oldman, but I haven't seen any tire manufacturers who recommend keeping tires off of concrete. I have seen them say to keep the tires off of asphalt for extended periods of time, however, but not concrete.

The article your referred to is from a tire accessory supplier. I was really looking for advice from the tire manufacturers. I would imagine they would be the experts.

I am definitely NOT set in my ways and would welcome any evidence you can find. I really do want to protect my tires and if placing a vapor barrier under them will help, I'll do it every time.

They should check to see how well those tire covers protect the tires from SUN.. (I suspect not all that well).

Try this,, Take a few measurements and cut a slab of plywood to cover the tires, then put the cover over that.. The cover looks good and the plywood protects the tire.

I own a Winnebago and I went to Camping World and bought the wheel covers that fit a bus. They worked great on my coach. CW also told me if they don't work to bring them back! I liked that type of customer service.

When I bought my tire covers at Camping World; I was going to buy the smaller 22.5 covers as per my tire size. But the guy at the store told me to get the bigger covers as they would be easier to put on and have a strap to hold them on. They fit good, are easy to put on, and I don't have to use the strap on the bottom.

X2, the only thing I've seen from tire manufacturers is to keep oil and chemicals off of your tires. I've seen them say to avoid asphalt for that reason but not concrete.

But, I could be entirely wrong, so I welcome any evidence you can find.

The jury is still out as to the effectiveness of tire covers with regard to UV protection BUT there is no doubt that white covers reduce the heat buildup created by the sun as compared with black covers.
