Considering a Newmar coach

We're considering trading our Winnebago in for a newer coach. A dealer has a 2014 gas model that seems to fit our needs, it's a 2014 29' Baystar on a 20.5Klb Ford chassis. Claims the price is "wholesale" since he wants to sell it. Is offering us wholesale on our Winnebago. A few questions: 1) What kind of a reputation do the Newmar coaches have? 2) Says the 20.5K chassis rides better than the 18K, is that correct? )3 Any issues we should be aware of?

Thanks to all who share their knowledge!!

  • We traveled full-time in our Newmar motorhome for 8 carefree years. Newmar has an excellent reputation. Before buying we talked to a lot of owners and that's why we made the choice. If it's a fit for you...go for it!
  • We toured the Newmar factory two years ago, and were impressed with how efficient and how clean everything was kept. There is only one production line, and the same people that build the King Aire, Essex, Mountain Aire, etc build the Bay Star. The only difference is the chassis, engine and interior fittings. If we were to buy another large coach it would be a Newmar. We downsized to the Via, so this may be our last coach. There is a nice video of the factory on the Newmar website: Newmar Factory Tour
  • Newmar has great customer service. I do not know anything about that model, but the one I have is very well built.
  • Newmar has a great reputation for quality coaches, The BayStar is an entry level coach, I know nothing about the newer models, but we love our Mountain Aire.
