Converter fan running

29' Coachmen Leprechaun 2005

my converter fan seems to be running more than usual. I spent the month of March in Florida and slept in it every night and did not hear the fan near as much as i did last two nights..

does this mean its dying?

does the power source I'm plugged into make a difference? In March i was plugged into my brothers house on the driveway, now I am in a campground...

any thoughts?
  • Are you using more power now and have you checked the condition of your battery/batteries ??
I would start with the battery, it may be going bad or even dead causing a constant charge mode.

I would definitely check the fluid level of the battery. Also check to see if the battery case is getting hot. Low battery fluids sometimes causes shorted battery cells. Continuous running of the converter fan could be the sign of a failing battery...

  • What type/model converter? My old Magnatek got hot and the fan seem to run alot - I found that cleaning the fan blades and a bit of lubrication would quiet it down. I switched to 9200 series Progressive Dynamic converter and it seems to run cooler and I have never heard the fan.
  • If you have a voltmeter, check the battery voltage both when plugged in and when not plugged in. That could tell you a lot.
