RayChez is wrong, going down a long downgrade without a thermostat the temperature will fall well below normal as the engine is being driven by the RV's momentum with the throttle closed and very little fuel being burned. As big as RV radiators are, a long downgrade on a cold day could easily drop the temperature to the bottom of the scale. Only way it will maintain 'normal running temperature' is with a thermostat that will close and stop circulating the coolant through the radiator.
Gary: I never said anything about running without a thermostat. I said that it is perfectly normal for the gauge to fluctuate. It is normal for it to go up when climbing and go down when there is no load on the engine, like going down hill. Read, before you make such a statement.
