Totally irrelevant and off-topic, but may provide some relief of the shadenfreude sort for the OP: my son in law recently blew the engine in his Porsche: a rod came through the block. His new engine is going to cost him $40,000. Be glad your RV isn't powered by Porsche.
My mechanic told me he'd kill me if I bought a German car lol - naturistNomad IITotally irrelevant and off-topic, but may provide some relief of the shadenfreude sort for the OP: my son in law recently blew the engine in his Porsche: a rod came through the block. I have over 200,000 on my 7.4. Treat it right and you should get that kind of miles. No engine work, just routine maintenance.
Long block is about $3000. add in external components another $1500. Installation will put cost up to nearly $10,000.
Maybe 3k oil changes if that is all that it is driven in a year, but that is real old school! Most gas engines now state 5k to 7.5k, the oil and additives today are far better than in years past.
I changed the oil in my 2001 Cummins at 10k and when I needed to change the tappet gallery gasket at 300k it was clean.
Best to have it analyzed when changing. - gboppExplorerA few years ago I knew someone who had the engine in their Fleetwood Flair replaced after it self-destructed while they were in Florida.
It cost a little over 10K. - JRscoobyExplorer II

The main engine block should be fine if you've kept up on oil changes and not otherwise abused it.
The concern I see is the ancilliary stuff. Belts, hoses, water pump, radiator, computers, etc... failing.
Then you have stuff like wires becoming brittle and does it become a challenge to find faults.
Eventually, even though the main core of the engine is perfectly fine, is it more hassle than it's worth.
I agree, but by the time the truck parts get to be more hassle than worth much of the house will have passed that point. - valhalla360NavigatorThe main engine block should be fine if you've kept up on oil changes and not otherwise abused it.

Nobody can guess prices that far in the future. Or say what the house/frame or rest will be like then - dodge_guyExplorer IIIf, it ever fails. I would replace it with a HD version of the 502....If they make one.
- I will add that if or when engine goes out, I will be having tranny gone through! Add another $2000 for that!
- TelemanExplorerGood to hear. 3k oil changes for sure.
