Critter Guard

I just wrap a terry towel around the cords where it goes through the bulkhead. Works pretty well and doesn't cost hardly anything. I use the towel to wipe down the power cord when reeling it in, so it does double duty.....Dennis

I have to imagine that if mice, sqirrels, ants, whatever desire to get into your RV, it's no real challenge to climb wheels, jacks or simply jump up under the frame. I can't really see how this will keep pests out of your RV. Am I missing something? If your RV touches the ground, pests can get in. Just be diligent about monitoring for it. I would think that the power or water connections would be the last place they would enter anyway since it doesn't really go into an "opening" to the coach. Mice like the engine compartment, spiders like any place with LP, and ants like anything to do with food.

We use bronze wool (like in steel wool only bronze) and place it around the areas that hoses and cords come into the MH. Tried the steel wool but it rusted. Bronze wool can be found at any marine store.

I use very coarse steel wool. I had rodents coming in and trying to nest until, I plugged the hole with steel wool! They make no attempt to get in there now, and they don't want anything to do with the coarse steel wool!

Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried teh steel wool and it rust and becomes very messy. I will have to check out the bronze wool. I wonder how stainless steel wood would do?

To point out how determined and strong critters are: Our Raccoon pulled the pattern out of the linoleum and pried the wall paper apart at a seam no one else could see.
Rats got into our heating duct work by gnawing through mortar below the sill plate, which was treated and didn't taste good, I guess.
I've heard of Raccoons figuring out fastened garbage can lids.
And a long list I don't remember right now. They want out of the weather or a nesting place or smell food or sense warmth they will tear the towel out. Not sure anything short of metal will stop them. It won't stop rats. They will chew through flashing and gutters etc.
Likely they would chew through the sewer hose, unless it has some kinda smell bad/taste bad quality and into the tank and up the shower or toilet.

Critters.....yes we have had ants so bad we had to remove all food stuffs and spray.....fell out of the trees overhead and when we got on the road they all blew off...what a mess....
our hook - ups go thru a big hole in our utilities compartment....the only way to keep critters out is a wood plug the same size as the opening with a small slot cut in it to just accommodate the tv, water, power .......and push it in ....and spray the heck out of the cords and surrounding area.
Coons are so smart they can even figure out how to open a frig.....I shoot every one I see....we are hardly a match for them...LOL..
My Fleetwood is very well sealed....but still no match for critters....LOL
