cummins 6b5.9 alternator failures

The mystery continues. Cummins and Spartan were both very helpful, though without satisfactory result.
From Cummins I learned that they provided all the hardware (brackets, belt tensioner, belt, etc) and the customer (Spartan) supplied the alternator. Cummins recommended the Delco 15SI
From Spartan I learned that they did install the 15SI and used the belt from Cummins.
So everything seems to be the way that Cummins intended - but there is no way to mount the alternator fan that belongs on a 15SI on this engine. It just won't clear the belt tensioner.
