cummins 6b5.9 alternator failures

Thanks for the information. If that was your first alternator in 2012, then my belief that Delco put a fan on there for a reason would seem to be validated
Agreed that something is wrong with my install, though it appears to have been by design - all 3 brackets attaching the alternator, and the bracket for the belt tensioner visually match what Cummins shows for my ESN. And the belt is the same P/N as Cummins shipped with the engine.
And you are for sure correct about needing a longer belt if I move things.
One other thing I've been wondering is if Spartan put a larger pulley on the radiator fan than Cummins shipped. That would create this situation. Perhaps they used a high pitch fan that needs to run slower than what Cummins had in mind.
