Cummins Onan wont start

I have a Jayco, Melborne 24M that has a Cummins Onan RV RG 3200 generator. We have had the rig since the beginning of June and it has started fine untill recently. I went to start it and after it began to start it quickly shut off. The panel said "Oil Temp-Press". Dip stick shows oil within operating range and since the unit had not started I don't believe the temperature is the issue. After attempting another start a "Gen Alert" was displayed.

During the course of looking over the unit and the manual I found the ground connection to be loose, so it was tightened. I also notice the wire housing the comes from the generator has a significant crimp in it just before it enters a junction box just a few inches from the generator.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have called the Good Sam service line and the two different Tech's I spoke with could not provide any info.

  • Thanks for the replies. Had to take it to Cummins Dealer and after ten days of work, replacing the control panel and inverter they decided to replace the wireing harness. Turns our it had a short. Thankfully it was all under warranty. That saved me close to $2,000 in repairs
  • Looks like you may have sent the wrong link. I didn't see anything about an oil pressure sensor.
  • This link indicates you do have a low oil pressure sensor. It does list it. If your genset has an oil filter under side cover some oil pressure switch are right above it.

  • Sounds like you have identified two problems (not necessarily related) and know how to address them.

Let us know what happens after these two issues are fixed.
  • Verify your model of genset
Is your rig a diesel? Is the genset diesel or propane.
It could be a low oil pressure switch
