Alas, on my RV they tell me the dash A/C is a "Body Builder Item". even though it very clearly is not since it is a standard all the way chassis maker's original parent company product.
However, you said it "Shorted out".. Symptoms please,, many of these are easily fixed.
Does the blower blow but the compressor fail to compress?
Does the compressor compress but the blower fail to blow?
Something else
Did the fuse or breaker blow/trip.
