dead bolt lock replacement

I want to replace the dead bolt on my 1994 Class C with a keyless, electronic type dead bolt. Those I have found at places like Home Depot have a different dead bolt in them and will require some modification of the door to get it to work. The dead bolt on the door has just the round shape set in a small hole. Mobile home type I guess. Anyone know of an electronic deadbolt lock that doesn't require modification tot he door?

  • Look for a deadbolt with the triple strike option, it is what you are looking for and includes an adapter to convert to a drive-in bolt.
    Schlage makes a BC160 with a 11/2 inch prep with a 1 inch diameter drive-in bolt
  • The dead bolt on the older model 1884 Callista Cove is similar to the dead bolt on a house. Appears to be smaller and the bolt itself has a round door fitting rather than the rectangular style of the house dead bolts. At home depot didn't find any that would work with the existing bolt and would have to modify the door to make it work with a complete unit they offered. Would have to cut the metal out of the edge area to get the new unit to fit flush with the edge of the door.

The bauer unit might fit the standard old RV door latching mechanism but that latch doesn't use a dead bolt type latching system, so can't use it. Guess will have to put up with the key and make sure I don't loose it.
  • They are RV specific. You have to find one that matches your current door handle.

    Here's one.
