I have used the "Battery Minder" brand charger / maintainers with great success. As I understand it, they do not use high voltage to de-sulfate. Instead, they use some sort of high frequency pulses. With them, I do not believe you need to have any concerns with high voltage issues. They do take quite a bit of time to do the de-sulfating, but won't harm electronics.
At least this is my experience with them on many batteries in different vehicles.
