Detail Gratuity

Hi all,

First time having our rig detailed. Coming out tomorrow to do a full exterior wash & wax. $10/foot (called around, seemed the norm).

Anyways, what is the general tipping guideline? If I had a car fully detailed I'd probably just drop the guy a $20, but since I'm looking at $310 I'm not sure.

  • If you get good service and a good job 15% If you get great service and a great job 20%
  • I'd still tip the owner. Not sure why you wouldn't. Guy is humping it himself and sweating his rear end off just like a worker.

On 310 I'd give him 350 flat if they do a good job.

no different than a restaurant, if you feel like it, tip the server accordingly equal to the service. Except-
Flash a bill of your choice at the workers at the beginning of the job, describe what you want for it. It'll be cash well earned, and spent.
pay the business, tip the staff.

That's the kicker. I can't be there to see the finished product. Our nanny will be there so I have to plan ahead. $40 sounds fair to me. Supposed to be over 100 degrees tomorrow. Its not the owner, its a worked.

  • I have my coach washed, dryed and tire shine for $80 and I give them $100 when I'm at my Southern California storage garage.

When I'm at the Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort, that's when I have it washed and waxed (42 ft.), tire and wheel detail, etc. He charges $250 for the coach and $10 to wash the Honda.... so, I give him $320.

    MM.
  • If the guy is the owner of the company. No tip if its a $10 an hour guy $20 would make his day!
