Diamond Shield

Mine didn't start failing (mildew) until mid year four. So the new stuff may not have started failing yet.

I had heard of mildew issues BEFORE I had it installed and I TOO was assured the new stuff had been "improved".

No way would I spend $1200 again.

But I will point one thing out. Even though it was a royal PITA to remove at year six, it did it's job. The paint looked like new and I only had one chip.

Another thing I'll point out. The installer did not wash the front with bleach water before the install. I would do that.

OK. I have just one more week to decide on whether or not to have Diamond Shield applied to our rig following the complete repaint.
The painter says that the new version of DS came out 5-6 years ago, and they have had NO complaints about it.
SO, will someone with personal experience with the NEW Diamond Shield please chime in and give details about why you love it, or specifically why you hate it.

The painter just replied to me on this topic.
Diamond Shield says their warranty WILL apply to my newly painted coach as long as it has set 72 hours after completion, since Mike's bakes their finished job in an oven which cures the paint right away.

I think you are getting all of the different front end shield materials confused. Everyone uses Diamond Shield generically (like Kleenex is used for all facial tissues and Xerox is used for all copiers and the act of making a copy). The 3M films seem to be the biggest problems that I have seen.

The new Diamond Shield, labeled nano fusion film, is really good stuff. Maintenance is minimal - a few spritzes of 303 once a month and you are done. There is no reason to wax it as the only recommended maintenance is 303 monthly and wash the bugs off as soon as you park for the day.

Whether it is Diamond Shield or 3M. MY opinion is, on motorhomes, you should allow at least 90 days for the paint to "cure" before installing any type shield. Back in the early 2000's before the factory's offered the shields as an option, we had 3M installed on sold motorhomes and NEVER had any type problem. Once the Factory's offered it as an option, we started seeing the type problems that are on this thread. Usually, the motorhomes had at least a month to cure before we sold them. At the factory, the shield is installed within a few days of being painted. IMO, if the paint has had time to cure and the product is professionally installed, there are no problems. Doug

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BOTH PRODUCTS. IT IS HOW IT IS INSTALLED AND WHAT IT IS INSTALLED ON. If the paint or fiberglass is not properly set up and cured, then the product will have problems. If NOT installed correctly, it will have problems. After observing numerous installs on motorhomes, it is the INSTALLER than can make a big difference.

I have had mine replaced two times. I did every thing they suggested to keep the mildew from "creeping" in. Nothing worked. I am sorry I ever had it put on. I could have had the front repainted for less. In my opinion this is one of the worse products you could put on a motor home for any other vehicle. I called and they suggested I get the "new" product at a very expensive cost. They wanted $400 to remove. Again, in my opinion they should stand behind their product and not stick the consumer with this sub par product. I would suggest that anyone thinking of getting this product on their MH that they don't. Save yourselves a lot of head aches.

Don't waste your money. Put your money in the bank and run away from Diamond Shield.

Put it on in 05. Wish I never had. They told me in 05 it was a new formula.
The five year guarantee only covered material not the $700 labor.

Never again.
