Diesel additive

The wife and I just purchased our first diesel pusher. We have 25 yrs of RVing under our belt. This is our 6th RV. We final stepped up to a diesel pusher.
This is a new learning experience for both of us.
This may be a loaded questions, I apologize if it has already been asked before. What is everyone using for a fuel additive, how much and how often do you add it?
I have the 350HP Cat C7.
Any help would be appreciated.
  • The following link is a test they did back in 2007. They did it soon after the switch to ULSD fuel.

  • I have the same engine - in my normal operations I don't run any additives.

I do have a clear bowl on the bottom on my main fuel filter at the rear of the DP that I watch for water and other contamination. I carry a jug of Power Service that will treat 250 gal of fuel if needed. When I had it in Alaska and there was the possibility of needing to start it in the winter, I treated the fuel before storage. If you needed to do this, make sure you also start the generator so the treated fuel is in it also.

There are several types of Power Service - this is the white bottle with the red top.

There are biocides that can be used if bacteria starts growing in your fuel tank. Some people will use this as a precaution when storing their DPs in warm climates for long times. I haven't so far.

  • I have never added anything to the fuel as we use it monthly (Rv'ing since 2007). We drove the first coach to almost 70,000 miles and now have 22,000 on the current one.

I would check the engine manual to see if they have anything to say about an additive.

Congrats on the new Diesel pusher!
