Diesel Engine heater block-Yes or No

What's your thought. In cold weather (below freezing) is it a good idea to keep the engine block heater "ON" or "off" if the coach is just setting and the engine will not be started anytime soon?
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

30-40 isn't even cold unless they have a - in front of them. We never used the heaters on the school buses until it got below 20F every night.
  • Off until a few hours before you are ready to start the coach for departure.

    Mike.
  • Off unless you are going to use it. I have a timer I set for AM departures. It is set to come on about four hours prior.
  • You never need (or want) the engine block heater on if you have no plans to use the coach. Turn on the block heater a few hours before you are ready to go or even the night before you leave but certainly you don't want to leave it on forever or for days.

Waste of money until you need it to start ,then 4 hours of it plugged in and your good to go.

It is easier on the engine , I do agree that you just need the 4 hours.
