Diesel generator.

I have a 2003 National Tradewinds. When I start the generator it dies and when I start it again it seems to be ok. Could it be a fuel filter or what? This has happened three or four times in the past 3 months. Also would it hurt to spray the gen with simple green and rinse it off. That is what I do with my car engines when they get dirty. Thanks.
  • I had a similar problem with my generator that no one could find. If it sat for a while, it would start very rough and run rough for a minute or so. Finally one place found the bleeder valve in the fuel line was ajar. So as it sat, air got into the line. It now runs perfectly.
  • My propane generator did the same thing on my previous coach. Would run for a few seconds, on restart it would run all day. Just the first crank of the day especially if it had been a while since starting it up.
  • Don't know, My regular RV repairman only repairs the box problems not the motor or chasses,
