All diesel motorhomes being currently built are to EPA 2010 standards. These are clean running engines with little or no particulates (that is what is triggering your sister-in-laws asthma) or NOx (that's what DEF is for). They have very little exhaust odor as a result of these pollution controls.
The main push to these clean diesels was in fact the impact on repiratory diseases caused by "dirty" diesel engines on millions of people - both here and in Europe where diesel engines are far more popular.
