Diesel Stoves, etc

I have been warming to the Tiger line. There is an all diesel option, where diesel is the fuel source for everything. Dual alternators turn the engine into a generator, as I understand it, and even the stove runs on diesel. Having one fuel source seems like a great idea, and due to my bad back, I would prefer not to deal with propane tanks. Any words of wisdom on all- diesel?

I will always remember how that thing stunk. To me, it even made the food taste diesel-y.

Hopefully diesel stoves have come a long way since then.

I used to be an avid sailor and can well remember foul diesel smells. I don't know if that translates to RV's. It sure would be nice to have a single fuel source.
  • If it vents outside it shouldn't smell. Diesel is much safer than LP and easier to get. If I was building my dream RV there would be no propane and it would be all diesel/solar.
  • Boats have diesel stoves, ovens and you do know it is a diesel stove.

I will have to ask our boating friends how their fridge keeps cold.

  • I had the Wallis stove/heater in my C-Dory and it worked well, wish it had used one in my Sprinter 'B'.

  • My question would be about the stove, what about the fumes, propane has an odor before it burn, but none when it burns, diesel one the other hand has a terrible odor when it burns.
  • Dusty is right, the tiger won't have portable LP tanks.
The all diesel option sounds interesting. I guess there's a big battery bank to power a compressor style refrigerator? Water heating and space heating with diesel fuel should work fine. The cook stove would leave me wondering. I've heard some people discussing an appliance like that and not giving it very good reviews. However, I'm sure there are good and bad of anything.
  • Hi diver110 - an all diesel unit gives you the most fuel energy stored in the smallest space and would be really convenient.
  • It has been a very long time since I've seen a mh with a portable LP cylinder. All mh today have a fixed/mounted LP tank.
