Diesel winter storage

Hi all,
Should I use a diesel fuel additive when I put my motorhome up for the winter? Not sure if I should use an anti fugal treatment or something. Also do I need to do anything special to the generator before I put it away? Thanks.

  • If filling up now (a good idea to always keep the tank full to minimize condensation) you have a tank of #2 diesel.

Since you are way up north, you need to add an anti-gel. Walmart, etc carry PS brand. Be sure to drive far enough after adding it that it gets circulated through out the system including generator.

I would also add a BIOCIDE if storing for more than a few months. Biobor JF is a common brand and available at most marine stores, etc.
  • With a lot of stations now having Bio that has a short storage time.
Add Diesel Sta-Bile and some Biocide. Walmart carrys both.

  • I also recommend that you use a fuel stabilizer while you make your last fuel top off before storing (important the tank be full). Then run the coach and the generator so all lines are treated. Park it and do not start either again until you are ready to travel again.

never hurts to put in a algae/water additive for storage, if u do run it long enough it goes through the system
Other than the obvious MH chit regarding water and batterys
don't need anything special for generator
just don't be one of those people that thinks you need to start either of them every 2 weeks or month. leave them sit till your ready to roll in the spring
