- GoldencrazyExplorerYou nailed it perfectly. Chatanooga was terrible traffice with everything stopped for 40 miles so I thought I would take some different routes with the motorhome (38 ft) towing a Smart Car. I used to have a condo in Gulf Shores Alabama so familiar with 65. Thanks.
- GrooverExplorer IIFrom the title I assume that you are tired of the same old route and looking for some scenery but "65 to 231 at Montgomery down to the 10" makes it sound like you are going to Orlando, not Atlanta.
If you are going to Atlanta the interstate from Birmingham to Atlanta is an older one and winds around a little more than most but works. Keep in mind that it has the Talledega speedway on it and is subject to occasional weekend traffic jams but does go by Cheaha state park and some other pretty areas. If you are jusst looking for a change of scenery not in a hurry you could get off of 65 at exit 1 in TN, go through Ardmore and down to I565, go east to HWY72 and Scottsboro. Get on I24 at South Pittsburg unless you are feeling really adventourous cross the river just past Scottsboro and take the back roads to Atlanta. Another option from Huntsville would be to take 431 to Anniston to I20.
It you are looking for a better way to get to Florida I generally take 65 to Montgomery, get off on the interstate to Atlanta, go to exit 9(I think), then head south to 231. It used to cut off a lot of Montegomery traffic but is getting congested in its own right now so may not be much of an improvement.
