Dinette storage drawers sticking

Our storage drawers (2) located under each seat of the dinette are extremely difficult to pull open. To open we lift up on the drawer handle and then try to pull the drawer out. This is almost impossible. Any suggestion on possible action to resolve, is appreciated.

Thank-you :h

  • An old 'wood to wood' fix was a bar of soap rubbed on the sliding surfaces.

    Works on zippers too......

Glad you found a fix tho....this is the place.

Get some paste wax, like they waxed cars with in the 50's. Wax the sliding surfaces. We had a table that was almost impossible to open to put in or take out the leaves. We waxed the sliding surfaces, and now we can open it with 1 finger.

    Not that finger.
  • If it is wood on wood use candle wax to lubricate, just rub it on the wood. It has worked for me in the past.
  • I also had one drawer causing an issue and found a loose screw for the guide rail was causing it to jam. 5 minute fix.
  • I have one drawer that acts like that.

After inspecting all the hardware and finding nothing wrong, I noticed that the "varnish" on the places where the drawer contacts the cabinet looked a bit darker. Turns out something like pancake syrup had been spilled and then left to dry.

The symptom was: Wouldn't move at all until you pulled hard enough to make it "pop" loose and then would have only a minor stickage when completely closed......until it sat closed for a while.

It's much better after cleaning but still tends to stick at times; needs another better cleaning, I think.
  • Pull the drawers completely out. Make sure nothing is broken, clean and lube.

If it's just a system of wood sliding on wood, spray silicone on the contact areas.
  • Are your drawers on 'bead' type sliders/rails? I had a similar problem and had to replace the slider due to the 'beads' were missing therefore causing a hard time opening.
  • I had problems with a few of ours doing that also. I took them out and cleaned the rollers and rails with alcohol and the used some lubricant on them. Marvel Mystery oil is great for stuff like that. Now they glide in and out just fine.
  • Please tell us what coach you have-- that may allow others to know what type of drawer slides you have.

Or, if you know what slides you have and that they are properly secured to drawer and frame, that would help.

Of course another option would be to buy good quality ball bearing drawer slides such as: http://www.ovisonline.com/Drawer-Slides-C4.aspx?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=IM%20-%20Drawer%20Slides%20-%20Exact%20-%20Bing&utm_term=Ball%20Bearing%20Drawer%20Slide

With these, you can open and close with your little finger, even if heavily loaded. Be sure to make some kind of arrangement for securing the drawers in the closed position when traveling.
