Direct TV

Just got Direct 18 in dish.Plan to move tv and receiver from bedroom to MH.Note instructions say to reprogram receiver. What happens if I move everything back t the house? Do you reprogram back to original settings or does it do it automaticly.Guess asking for help as I do not understand. Please excuse my ignorance.
  • I would get an extra receiver from DirecTV for the RV. $6.00 per month. Get the basic one. Leave it in the RV. Well worth it in my opinion. Note: if you get another receiver for the RV, and it has not been hooked to electricity for over one month, you will need to reset the receiver online or on the phone when you leave for the next trip. They go into dormant mode if you don't use them. Easy to refresh the receiver online.
  • I have a SWM dish at home and when I am in trees and the Travel'r can't find the sats (very rare) and I have to use my 18 inch round external dish, in the receiver menu I have to change the line below the 18 inch from SWM to Multi Switch.

Yes, you will need to change each time you change antenna types but it's a pretty quick job, especially when you return home to an antenna that is already properly pointed. You just need to ensure that the model number of the receiver you plan to use has a model number of H24 or lower. Starting with the 25 and higher series receivers you will need more than a standard 18" round antenna to make them work (actually, just special SWM hardware as an add-on).

The home dish is very different from an 18" round dish so a setup change will be required each time the receiver is connected to a different antenna type.
  • changing for different dish configuration is easy. There is a selection in the setup menu. Just select the one you are using at the time and the receiver will do the rest.

  • What receiver fist of all?
To answer the original question, yes, you will have to reprogram the receiver for each different type of dish. Remember that dish will not allow you to receive HD programming and is not SWM compatible.
